![]() ![]() Hardcore shows and mosh pits have not historically been the most welcoming places. Delicate and precise instrumentals were layered underneath their poetic lyrics. La Dispute played tracks from albums throughout the years. They reminisce on the much smaller crowd that they drew the last time they played together in Worcester, and how far they’ve come since then. Both acts played many fan favorites from older albums: it seemed to be a nostalgic show for both the bands and the fans. La Dispute hasn’t toured with Touché Amoré since 2011: the reunion clearly brought out a nostalgic crowd of dedicated fans. ![]() Touché Amoré frontman Jeremy Bolm electrified the pit with his undeniable energy. Their emocore aesthetic and sound is reminiscent of the best parts of 90’s screamo, but their recent releases, like their newest single Deflector, show that their sound is still evolving. Next up, Touché Amoré came on stage, bringing their classic post-hardcore sound to the crowd. The Philadelphia band is noise punk and genre-bending. The first opener at the Pallidium on November 23rd, Empath, alternated between ambient interludes and intense, fast hardcore-inspired tracks. Over the last 11 years they’ve been releasing music that tells the stories of everything from their struggles with mental illness to drive-by shootings, to heartbreak, to a tornado tearing apart a small midwestern town. They’re best known for their heart-wrenching lyrics, whispered or yelled over strong hardcore-inspired instrumentals. Included inside is a Digital Download card of all 4 songs.La Dispute is a post-hardcore spoken word band hailing from Grand Rapids, Michigan. Recorded during similar time periods both in Los Angeles and in New York and featuring collaborative digital and hand-drawn artwork from La Dispute's Adam Vass and Touche Amore's Nick Steinhardt, as well as vocal collaborations between each band's vocalists, "SFAP/TWOTW" arrives via No Sleep Records this July. The end result is a 4-song collaborative examination of life, two musical snapshots from two very different cities that each show the same lingering uncertainty present everywhere, and a challenge to the creative process. Musically, the 7" represents a new approach for both bands, who, in an attempt to add aesthetic continuity to the lyrical concept, focused on finding musical middle ground with the other-a process that forced both bands into new creative territories and added a consistency uncharacteristic of most splits. In particular, the songs on either side of this record discuss thematically the sometimes crippling mediocrity of day-to-day life, paying special attention to the effect environment has on self while attempting to reconcile feelings of discontent in the face of self-doubt. "Searching for a Pulse/The Worth of the World" is the musical and emotional convergence of two groups of close friends who, while from entirely different locations and backgrounds, share a common passion for creating honest art that seeks to explore the deeper aspects of every day existence.
